Pilgrimage to the Sacred House of God is one of the pillars of Islam, as God Almighty says: “And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to God, for those who can afford the expenses (for one’s expenses).” And the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Islam is built on five pillars: testifying that there is no god but God and that Muhammad is the Messenger of God, establishing prayer, paying zakat, fasting Ramadan, and Hajj to the House, for those who can afford the expenses (for one’s expenses).” It was made obligatory in the ninth year of the Hijra.
